Generic Services for
third generation wireless mobile systems
M-commerce is one of the growth markets of the IT branch.
With growing sales in this segment the need for secure,
PKI based communication over wireless nets is growing.
SEFIROT has very early started developing application scenarios for
3rd generation mobile systems (GPRS, UMTS) and is presently
using these as test environments for developing and
exploring security services in the mobile segment.
Two developments of mobile services will be presented subsequently:
1. Audiovisual wireless Car Promotion Service
SEFIROT GmbH has under contract of the Siemens AG developed a dbased
generic promotion service with synchronous and asynchronous video transmission
for 3rd generation (GPRS, UMTS) mobile wireless systems.
An entrepreneur can generate complete services e.g. a car promotion service by employing the generic
switching service.
The Audiovisual wireless Car Promotion Services is an exemplary GPRS/ UMTS
application combining diverse multi media services for customers and service
providers with focus on service and spatial independence.
The first application scenario developed by SEFIROT GmbH and presented at the
CeBIT 2000 was customized for the car branch. The car salesman/ car manufacturer/
-dealer or -leasing company can if so desired transmit straight onto the mobile
terminals of potential customers custom-made video clips about new and used cars
plus technical information. Simultaneously somebody interested can also access
information and video clips of an internet dbase while mobile; if wanted customer
and dealer can immediately contact each other out of the application.
The whole scenario can in the meantime be inspected in the Siemens Future Lab.
As a potential entrepreneur one can access the internet dbase using a
3rd generation mobile terminal, it is possible to generate new offers,
update or delete old ones. As a customer one can call up offers while mobile and
decide to earmark or buy a chosen car with the help of callable video sequences.
If the desired car is presently not available one can program the issue of the
respective offer per SMS or email.
2. Mobile event scheduling/ movie service
The second application scenario developed by SEFIROT GmbH and presented at
the CeBIT 2001 was a mobile event scheduling/ movie service. This service permits
seeking movies (theaters), place and time, and is combined with a Location Based
Service. Beyond that the service comprises of features like a video service for
preview of film trailers and video clips available from the movie theater,
features like a room service displaying the seats in the theater, a reservation
and booking function, plus a notification service that acknowledges the booking
or will remind about the event booked e.g. per SMS.
